How well do those 17$ DIY home theater kits on ebay work? are they just a scam?

Its a simple concept of using the plastic enlarger screen from a overhead projector(The thing in school where your teacher would put a piece of paper on to project it). Yes it works, but you will need a TV or a computer screen to create the image. It will provide a bigger image with less clarity and will be hard to see in the daylight. Not bad if you want a really big screen.

How well do those 17$ DIY home theater kits on ebay work? are they just a scam?comedy show

If the kit includes the use of a Fresnel lens to enlarge the viewing area, there are factors be be aware of. Indeed these kits enlarge the viewing area but with a loss of brightness, clarity and sharpness.

The most important factor is the loss of lumen output.

One of the basic laws of physics involving light propagation or transmission, is the inverse square law.

What this law states is, every time you multiply the distance of the projected light source X 2, you must increase the source output X 4.

With this said, if you are using a TV set as your source, take into consideration the throw distance, this is the measurement between the "kit lens" attached to your TV source and the screen or wall it is to be projected on.

To make a long answer short, the anomalies associated with these "big screen" kits basically comes down to the available amount of lumen output. Your TV can not provide sufficient lumen output compared to other sources such as a LCD or DLP projector.

Bottom line, you get what you pay for!

One of my favorite quotes:

"Buy the best first and only cry once!".

To surmise, a standard TV will not allow one to increase its output sufficiently to project at significant distance.

With this in mind, the end result will be a less desirable video program quality that can only be viewed in a very dark environment.

Know the material you'll deliver. Consider that others are perhaps as anxious. Relax. Enjoy. Accept that rejection might happen, but not as a personal attack. Engage the "Judges" as you will any audience. Don't hesitate, even if you drop a line. Don't apologize for any errors. Believe that this is your Oscar or Emmy night.

break a leg! :) be relaxed and do what you know best!

everuthing will be OK!
Break a leg---and if you don't know this, you don't deserve to be in theater!
'break a leg"... which means good luck of course.
Go in there and just be yourself. When you act be sure to put a lot of feeling and expression into it. Don't be nervous and have fun! (thats what i always do)
Dont just read the lines, add some movement and create a character that the director will remember - perhaps add an accent or a quirky walk, and if you are doing the scene with someone else, remember to react while they are saying their lines. Break a leg!
drink some tea...chamomile tea.

Are there any myths or legends involving theater?

there is a theatre that my good friend visited were this man came in and sat to watch the performance but he was unusual wearing clothes from the second world war. she saw him a few times (at different shows) when she decided to follow him after he diapered through a wall she brought open an investigation.

it turned out the man was murdered in the theatre (blow to the head) when he went to collect his coat, when the bombing started he was left in the cloak room and was nailed up behind the 'wall' strait after the bombing nobody missed the cloak room

and investigators produced a file of the missing person believed to have died in the bombing but whose body wasn't recovered.

There are a couple of standard supersitions. It's considered bad luck to wish someone good luck in the theatre, which is why people say "Break a Leg" instead. It's considered bad luck to mention the play MacBeth by name, and it's usually called The "Scottish" play as a consequence.
.Phantom of the opera

Dont play superman, phantom of the opera is a lil haunted apparently, macbeth is bad luck, and always say 'break a leg' when your friend is going onstage, as this is good luck! crazy.
If you want a friends acting to go well on opening night tell them to "break a leg"; never say "good luck" as that is regarded as bringing bad luck.
Macbeth is meant to be cursed. On stage/set its always referred to as the scottish play.

Thats about all I know.
Apparently, it's bad luck to say "Macbeth" on stage because it brings bad luck. Instead, when not doing a production of the play, you're supposed to call it "The Scottish Play".

It comes from the idea that early productions of the play had all kinds of problems like the Set falling apart, people getting injured, random attacks by the occasional T-Rex (I made that last bit up, lol).

Basically, the same accidents that you'd find with other performances tended to happen more often and worse with "Macbeth". I don't buy into this Myth and enjoy winding people up by shouting "Macbeth" in a Theatre :-)
Yes the one about not being able to say the name Macbeth..
yes, the phantom of the opera
Don't whistle in a theater. The rigging system that makes things fly in and out on stage is designed after sails and was run by sailors, who used whistles to communicate with each other. If you whistle you will send a message to an sailor ghost and something will fly in and perhaps injure you.

Every theater has a ghost.

Don't say Macbeth in the theater it will bring bad luck.

Say break a leg before someone goes on stage. If you lock you legs you can pass out.
Look up "The Scottish Play" (Macbeth) - there are a lot of legends and superstitions amongst actors regarding that play.
Never say MacBeth. Always say the Scottish play.

HOW do I Build a Great Home theater system?

What is your budget?

Will style of room will you be installing it into? separate (like a mini-theater), common (living room)

What is your current knowledge of home theater? rank it 1-10, 10 being an electronics guru.

--------------------------------------...

The first thing you need to do is establish your budget. A decent home theater can start at $1000 and go all the way up to tens of thousands. And that's just for the speakers!

Once you have your budget, start researching. If you have some time, talk to every single electronics shop you can find about the best brands and quality, then start surfing the net and find the models that are in your budget. Research everything you can.

Be patient and don't go out there and buy the "home-theater-in-a-box" crap from Wal-Mart.

If you know absolutely nothing, you have a little money to spend, want it within a week or so, and want a mid to high-range home theater, your best start would be finding a electronics (specializing in home theater) store near you and asking them a lot of questions. You could even give them your budget range, they could piece together a system for you, and install everything.

If you cannot find a specialty store, then go to a Best Buy/Magnolia Home Theater. The salesmen there are somewhat knowledgeable and they also have installation teams that can set everything up for you, albeit for a sizable fee.

How come there is no union for theater administrative workers?

Actors and stage workers have Equity, but those who work in the Box Office and other administrative offices do not have a union. Why is that?

How come there is no union for theater administrative workers?performing arts center

They don't need them.Equity (and Sag and all the others) are in place to ensure safe working conditions for the actors as well as provide benefits like healthcare. Because actors, stage managers, etc can work for any theatre, it doesn't have to be the same one (unless you have a contract that states that, though I've never heard of it), they're more like independant consultants who are employed by the theatre for the duration of the rehearsal period and the run, that's it. They're not "full time".

Full time admin employee's of a theatre will usually have these things covered by their employer, which is the theatre. There are already laws in place regarding overtime, etc for these kinds of employees.

It's apples and oranges.

It was built from the timbers of the old Theater in Shoreditch, reassembled in Southwark. It burnt down in 1613, but was then rebuilt and remained in use till 1640 when it was closed down.

A reconstruction on nearly the same spot was opened a few years ago.
I think shakspeare opened it
It was built in 1599 by the Lord Chamberlain's men (Shakespeare's company) and burnt down in 1613. It was and still is primarily used for the plays of Shakespeare.

When did did the starlite drive-in theater in el monte, california close down?

Wow!!! Did they finally close that theatre down??? I used to live right down the street from that theatre, on the corner of Valley Blvd. and Baldwin Ave., oh say, 27 years ago!!! I remember when "Star Wars" played there, and it played for just about an entire year!!! The last I heard, the theatre was pretty much showing just Spanish language movies....

...Jeez!!! Next, you're gonna tell me that the Vineland Drive-In theatre, in the City of Industry, has closed down, too!!!

...although, supposedly the drive-in movies theatres are making a comeback, I think that it's safe to say that the time of the drive-in theatre, is unfortunately, an almost extinct and bygone era...

(edit)

...actually, I have a couple of the drive-in threatres in that area, confused with each other; the theatre, which I lived down the street from, was the 'El Monte' theatre. The 'Starlite' theatre, if I recall correctly, was on the opposite side of the '10' Freeway, on Rosemead Blvd.; that theatre ceased to function as a drive-in theatre sometime before I moved away from El Monte, to join the Navy, and it permenantly became a really seedy and run-down weekend swap meet. I haven't been there in so many years, that I have no idea what is there, now...

a HTIB (home theater in a box) is an easy way to get a entry level surround sound system, it'll include a receiver to hook up the speakers and sub (included). The numbers 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 represents the number of speakers (5, 6, 7) and the .1 represents the sub.

I think the system linked below will fit your needs and it is a top rated system (according to me and consumer reports). It is a 7.1 system, has two hdmi inputs, one output, and is ipod ready.

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Onkyo-HT-...

Sony HT7100DH is another one that I would recommend. This is a 5.1 system with two hdmi inputs, one outputs, and ipod ready as well. This system includes a 5 disc dvd changer.

Both HTIB has optical inputs, and are under $500 (not including tax). As for loud, I think these systems should suffice. If needed you can upgrade speakers and subs in the future.

Are cameras allowed at the Verizon Wireless Theater?

Are cameras allowed at the Verizon Wireless Theater?regal theater

It depends on the band I think, most of them have been OK with it when I have gone. Also you probably don't need to get there too early. If you have lawn seats, the lawn is really, really large so it shouldn't be a problem finding a spot. The biggest draw back about Verizon is the traffic getting out of there. I don't know what the crowd will be like at Lifehouse but at huge shows like Buffet, or Dave Matthews, etc., it can take up to two hours just to get out of the parking lot.

They were open ampitheatres built into the hillside, called 'theatrons', and it was the common evening pastime, for plays to be performed in fair weather

Can someone tell me about the The Theater on Ancient Greece?theater opera theater

they wore masks that covered their whole heads, with large openings at the mouth so that they could be heard. women were not allowed to act, so young men plaed the women. actors wo played the role of a god wore platform shoes to make themselves taller.
Your question is toooo vague and broad!!! What aspect of the ancient Greek theater are you interested in? Especially, the Platonic or pre-socratic era??!! And also, the Stoics and the Scenic's influenced the theater/playes of the day too. Are you interested in the archetecture? As you can see, you have a ton of considerations.... So, if you can narrow you question down, then I can help you further!
Not only were the Greek theaters usually built into hillsides, but they were acoustically nearly perfect. If you go into a poorly designed stadium or theater today, everyone has to be miked, and without a microphone, a person in the back can't hear anything on stage. A Greek theater never had microphones, and didn't need them. A person sitting in the top row could hear everything from the stage clearly. They wore masks with overexaggerated faces on them so that people in the back could clearly make out what was going on. Plays were often parodies of the current events (Much like the Daily show or Colbert Report), although there were many feature style performances that we think of today as theater.
they were built upon hillsides. drama was born of festivals to the greek god dionysus.

What is the history of the Globe theater and what was its specific design?

This also has to do with some research which I cant find. If anyone can help me with this information I would greatly appreciate it.

What is the history of the Globe theater and what was its specific design?violin

The Globe was owned by actors who were also shareholders in the Lord Chamberlain's Men. Two of the six Globe shareholders, Richard Burbage and his brother Cuthbert Burbage, owned double shares of the whole, or 25% each; the other four men, Shakespeare, John Heminges, Augustine Phillips, and Thomas Pope, owned a single share, or 12.5%. (Originally William Kempe was intended to be the seventh partner, but he sold out his share to the four minority sharers, leaving them with more than the originally planned 10%). These initial proportions changed over time, as new sharers were added. Shakespeare's share diminished from 1/8 to 1/14, or roughly 7%, over the course of his career.[4]

The Globe was built in 1599 using timber from an earlier theatre, The Theatre, that had been built by Richard Burbage's father, James Burbage, in Shoreditch in 1576. The Burbages originally had a 21-year lease of the site on which The Theatre was built but they owned the building outright. However the landlord, Giles Allen, claimed that the building had become his with the expiry of the lease. On 28 December 1598, while Allen was celebrating Christmas at his country home, carpenter Peter Street, supported by the players and their friends, dismantled The Theatre beam by beam and transported it to Street's waterfront warehouse near Bridewell. With the onset of more favourable weather in the following spring, the material was ferried over the Thames to reconstruct it as The Globe.[5]

On June 29, 1613 the Globe Theatre went up in flames during a performance of Henry the Eighth. A theatrical cannon, set off during the performance, misfired, igniting the wooden beams and thatching. According to one of the few surviving documents of the event, no one was hurt except a man whose burning breeches were put out with a bottle of ale.[6]

Like all the other theatres in London, the Globe was closed down by the Puritans in 1642 after it was rebuilt in 1614. It was destroyed in 1644 to make room for tenements. Its exact location remained unknown until remnants of its foundations were discovered in 1989 beneath the car park of Anchor Terrace on Park Street (the shape of the foundations are replicated in the surface of the car park). Anchor Terrace is a listed building and only very limited excavation, consisting of three small trial pits, has been permitted within its walls. One original pier base was identified.[7]

Layout of the Globe

Exterior of the modern reproduction of the Globe.

The Globe's actual dimensions are unknown, but its shape and size can be approximated from scholarly inquiry over the last two centuries.[8] The evidence suggests that it was a three-story, open-air amphitheatre approximately 100 feet (30 m) in diameter that could house up to 3,000 spectators.[9] The Globe is shown as round on Wenceslas Hollar's sketch of the building, later incorporated into his engraved "Long View" of London in 1647. However, in 1997-98, the uncovering of a small part of the Globe's foundation suggested that it was a polygon of 20 sides.[10][7]

At the base of the stage, there was an area called the pit,[11] (or, harking back to the old inn-yards, yard[12]) where, for a penny, people (the "groundlings") would stand to watch the performance. Groundlings would eat hazelnuts during performances 鈥?during the excavation of the Globe, nutshells were found preserved in the dirt 鈥?or oranges.[13] Around the yard were three levels of stadium-style seats, which were more expensive than standing room.

Interior of the modern reconstruction

A rectangle stage platform, also known as an 'apron stage', thrust out into the middle of the open-air yard. The stage measured approximately 43 feet (13.1 m) in width, 27 feet (8.2 m) in depth and was raised about 5 feet (1.5 m) off the ground. On this stage, there was a trap door for use by performers to enter from the "cellarage" area beneath the stage.[14]

Large columns on either side of the stage supported a roof over the rear portion of the stage. The ceiling under this roof was called the "heavens," and was painted with clouds and the sky.[citation needed] A trap door in the heavens enabled performers to descend using some form of rope and harness. The back wall of the stage had two or three doors on the main level, with a curtained inner stage in the centre and a balcony above it. The doors entered into the "tiring house" (backstage area) where the actors dressed and awaited their entrances. The balcony housed the musicians and could also be used for scenes requiring an upper space, such as the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet.

A good answer from Shark Boy - I am sitting looking out of the window at the site of Burbage's Theatre, on the land of the former Holywell Priory in Shoreditch, Hackney. TKTS in Times Square, it's across from TGIF's. The Times Square Booth sells day-of-performance tickets only.

So, there is no guarantee that Color Purple tickets for the day you want to go will be available at either TKTS. You will never find tickets to very popular shows or recent shows like Lion King or Spam-A-Lot. CP might be the same too since it is somewhat new and Fantasia is in it.

One last thing, if you happen to wait and they do have tickets for CP, bring cash or traveler's cheques. TKTS does NOT take personal checks or credit cards.

I have to perform a monologue for my theater class. Where can I find some?

I would prefer to do one from the play "A Raisin In the Sun" but I am having a hard time trying to find one on the web. Is there any way to get a monologue from this play without going out and getting a hardcopy of the play?

Have you looked in your school library, local public library or even asked the drama teacher/director if they have a copy or can get one for you? I think it would be a good way to go. Best to you.

Only complete tools buy Bose, no less at $1,200.

Your best bet it to pair GREAT speakers with a good subwoofer and receiver. Go internet only and you'll cut out the middle man.

Here's a system that will fill your room with theater like sound, adding nothing to the signal...just reproducing it in the way the music artist or movie director wanted you to hear:

$778 - 5 of these bookshelfs for 5.1 sound (google some reviews)

$429 - SVS 10" subwoofer (google some reviews)

Pair the above with an entry level receiver:

$250 Marantz

http://www.accessories4less.com/cgi-bin/...

$160 Onkyo

$60 will buy 100' of 12ga speaker wire, 10 pairs of banana plugs and a 25' subwoofer cable from

For a few dollars more than the Bose crap you get very good entry level gear that will not only sound like a million buck, it will also retain some resale value compared to the Bose stuff.

You can also put together a $500 system that will destroy the $1200 bose setup in any audio benchmarks.

Why do people buy Bose? Because the commercials assured them that they sound great!

Bose sells their crap in dedicated "Bose Rooms", this means that you cant do side by side comparisons with other manufacturers stuff, HELLO!

Why do you think they do that? Because they will lose that comparison!

There are literally hundreds of manufacturers out there that sell stuff that sounds better and is cheaper that Bose.

Take a Saturday and audition several different systems, stay away from the Big Boxes, youre going to be living with those speakers for a long time.

What is recommended for a good quality home theater system without going broke?

I currently have a Philips HTS 3440 DVD Home Theatre System 1,000 Watts. It has gone out on me, still under warranty, and Phillips is sending a new one. We paid $200 on sale.

I know you get what you pay for, but Phillips is a reputable brand isn't it (maybe not with HTS, apparently).

I would love to have a Bose, but I'm a college student and I can't buy a Bose just yet. Is there another reputable brand in the HTS area that I can reasonably afford? Maximum price range for me would be $500 I guess.

You can get a decent system for $500. Go to a high end electronic store though (best buy, Circuit city) and purchase it . Even if you buy a "good brand" at someplace like wal-mart it's the lower quality of the good brand. With electronics it is very true you get what you pay for. Probably more so than anything else.

Do you think sports are more important than theater?

just doing a report....

Do you think sports are more important than theater?tickets

Depending on who you are talking to. If you are talking to a person who came from a small town where high school sports was a source of entertainment then sports would be more important than theatre.

If you are talking to a person who is not a sports fan and did a lot of theatre and love it then that would be more important.

As for me I think the two can co-exist together. They both have equally importance in our world. I think our young people need to be more well rounded and not think that sports is the be all end all and the same thought about theatre.

I am well rounded where I do enjoy sports and at the same time I love community theatre.

it depends upon ur liking and on ur preferance.if u are much aware of ur body u will prefer sports and if u have interst in watching n performing u will love theatre. i personally find sports r good for ur body and any art like thatre.music, paintig etc are for ur soul.
Yes. Sports are way more important than theater.
No! I think they should both be on an equal playing field. Its a shame that in some cases theater and the arts (in general) are the first programs to go in society, and sports are put above all else. Id rather see High regard for both than favoritism to one!

What is your best experience watching a dinner theater?

Our best experience was at a place in Buena Park, CA called Wild Bill's. I understand it's been remodeled and since I see a Pirate Adventure listed at about the same address, it could have been replaced. The thing that was nice was that we were seated at tables that held about 20 people and we all ate family style, passing the chicken, ribs, and mashed potatoes around the table.

The entertainment was fun and included audience members. They stage was near the audience and it almost felt like we were in an old time saloon from the western movies with dancing girls, rope tricks, singing and skits.

No but for those who have that sucks you pay like tweleve bucks to go in room just to make out and you miss a movie jeez what a waste of twelve bucks and what a way to feel like prostitute. but rock on anywayz
Yes I was around 18 years old and I did it all in a dirty smelly theater called the Grand
I think there was actually a time I never saw any of the movie... too distracted. But it was a crappy movie anyways, and we were the only ones in there. (didnt do anything dirty, cuz i know some people are gonna think that!)
Ive done more than that in a movie theatre.
Gone very close in a movie theatre,But years ago, here in Australia we had mostly drive in theatres where you sat in your car(still some left)-boy we used to get those cars rocking lol.
Yes!! It is great....although you don't want to do it throughout the movie because not only is it a waste of money, but you will more than likely piss someone off. Sit in the back of the theater..
My God! What do you think theaters and drive-ins were for in the 50's and 60's? No one watched the movie!! It was the place to go to do just that!
no! eww .

i find that incredibly tacky and no one wants to see it except perverts.
i was seeing a guy long ago and we were watching the movie called "Blazing Star" i think that it what is was called. we were the only two in the whole theater, he started kissing me on my neck and rubbing my leg and no one ever saw us. all i had to do him was rub his hand and he was ready to go. this about sixteen years ago.
yes I have

and no details for you perv.
I just did earlier. She let me pinch and squeeze her titts. It had been a while since I've done but she enjoyed it.
Yes, when I was in Jr. High School, 9th grade. I went to the movies with this really cute guy, his name was Jack L. it was the first time we had done anything together. We were kissing and it was nice then he started trying to put his hand up under my blouse and I didn't like that. So I told him I had to go to the bathroom and then I walked home. The next Monday when I went to school he wouldn't speak to me and we never talked again. But, I still had my dignity and he was a loser.

When I was older I got to like all that good stuff. I would have felt kind of 'dirty' if I had let him 'touch and grope all over me'.
I did once and got arrested. signed, pee-wee herman.
Yes, it was short lived though. One of the movie employees started checking the theatre..I think he was on to us.

To tell you the truth..I don't think the movie theatre is a good place to make out..I mean it's dark and all but I didn't feel like I had any privacy...same goes for the beach as well.
No, that's so old to do that. It's been done.
Oh yeah baby... As a teen, with my now life partner. Got to second, then third....but no. Not all the way in a Theater. After, yes, after....
hundreds of times

This movie starred Milla Jovovich and Cameron Bright, it was about a superhuman woman that had something to do with modern vampires and some kid that had a virus or biological weapon imbeded in his DNA. Anyways, this movie was fruity and so was the soundtrack.

I saw it in the theater. I did not like it at all. She beat up 100 guys at once and barely got a scratch on her. Yeah right. Actually, I thought it was a funny movie. I seriously could not stop laughing. Maybe it was because I realized that I actually paid to watch this movie. Or maybe because it was so stupid it was funny. To get I-Max films you must be certified by them, and a home use is strictly forbidden.

If you want the ultimate set up why not look at a TMH set up. these systems are preferred over THX ultra systems. TMH is the next step up from THX. Look at the two links below for more information.

Just note that I have no commercial affiliation with either company, I just know both Tom and Jim.

well ya it is possible to have one but you would have to be super rich and hire people to project and run film properly. The I Max is a really expensive film type that is really heavy and uses about 3 rolls of 100lb. film for a two hour movie. this film is really sensitive and requires extreme care.

Assuming you have a surround sound receiver, you need to route the audio outputs of all your devices (DVD, Sattelite or Cable box, VCR, etc.) to the appropriate inputs on the surround receiver and then use your input buttons on the receiver to select which device's sound goes to your speakers...
Connect your R audio (red) and L audio (white) and video

If you have an HDTV that has and HDMI connector, and if

your receiver has this terminal as well, just connect this

How does training for a broadway, or any theater singer differ from a conventional singer?

Are there even any differences? I'm asking because I remembered an eppisode of American Idol and he told a woman she had a voice for broadway. There is such a difference between a broadway singers voice and lets say regular singer. So i suspect there has to be different training. If there is please post, thanks so much

How does training for a broadway, or any theater singer differ from a conventional singer?getting late

Broadway or "musical theatre" singers generally have strong powerful and more often than not trained voices. It's also mainly about the style, I guess you could compare say Britney Spears with a typically "pop" voice trying to sing something like "Phantom of the Opera." Wouldn't really mix and it kinda goes the other way too.

I'm a trained "musical theatre" singer and I've always struggled to sing in a "pop" way as the style and the way you sing is totally different.

It all pans down to what style you are trying to sing and in what genre youre voice is suited.

How does training for a broadway, or any theater singer differ from a conventional singer?regal theater opera theater

The difference is the ability to project into a full house without amplification. It involves volume and tone, and it can be learned.
A singer for opera will have learned to sing in many different languages, hit notes right on the note, and learn trills, and vibratos. They learn to sing clearly so the people at the top seats in the theater understand them.

A singer for Broadway sings with less vibrato in their voice, and unless the show is about blues, hits notes right on the note. They also learn to sing so they can be heard at the back of the hall.

A popular singer, learns to use a microphone so they do not need a powerful voice. (If they have one they need to turn down their volume to get a good sound.) They also need to learn to slide into the note and bend the note rather than always hitting the note exactly. A popular singer also must know how to improvise on the song, if they are good. A popular female singer does not tend to use the highest notes in her range. (An opera or Broadway singer will when given a chance.)

An untrained singer sings to the best of there ability but unless she or he is a natural will not sound like an opera or Broadway singer.

(I'm an untrained singer with a tiny bit of training.)

I've never seen anyone questioned, unless you look like you are 6, then maybe, lol
Yes, I'm 12 and I bought a child ticket for a PG-13 movie. The cashier didn't say anything.
Actually theaters let ppl in all the time no matter what there age is, my little sister is only 12 and she watchs rated R movies all the time without an adult with her and they never say anything.
You must be accompanied by an adult.
yes they only check your age for R rated movies.

PG-13 can be viewed by anybody Parental Guideance is SUGGESTED not REQUIRED.

R-means RESTRICTED so you HAVE To be of Age.
Your parents have to come with you into the theator by buying their own tickets and joining you there.
yes, I think so
Sometimes they will let you in because they don't care.
It depends on the theater. The ratings system is a guide for parents not a restriction on who theaters can sell tickets to, however most observe the guidelines.

See: http://www.mpaa.org/Ratings_Purpose.asp
The movie theatre will only check your age on a rated R movie.
Normally movie theaters don't care how old you are. I'm 21, but don't look much older than someone who is 12-16 years of age depending on how I dress, and I go to the movies with my friends and never have to show ID or anything. no one ever stops me and asks me my age. Movie theaters don't really care as long as you pay to see the movie. The movie theater will more than likely let you in.
no..lol

you must be 13 or older
yeah i've done that with a R-rated movie before.

depends on your age actuallly, if you are like 12,11 or maybe even 10 they could let you in i guess.. definetley under that, No.

Same applies to rated R, and X movies.
It depends on the movie theater. You can ask there.
no, the parent will have to purchase the ticket for the child, but the parents can then leave the child by themself if they want

Up high, near the ceiling.
Speaker should be position in top corner along the wall. This increase the area for the sound to spread. So, sound can be hear clear with good volume.
The optimum placement on any speaker is ear level with 1 exception, sub woofer. Room layout may not allow for that, ceiling corners will give the highest level of bass reflection. Now are you into bass or not? Is the question. If not then anywhere behind the listening area works equally.

Was spiderman 3 worth seeing in a movie theater?

I have seen no1 and no2 recently and I have heard several things about no3 being AWESOME and awesomely stupid. So could some one please tell me if its worth going 2 see or waiting till it comes out on DVD?

Was spiderman 3 worth seeing in a movie theater?ms stress

I am a huge Spider-man fan. He's the character that got me into reading comics in the first place. Even worked at a comic book shop when I was younger. So when I heard about the first Spider-man movie, I was excited. Sam Raimi no less! Evil Dead and Army of Darkness? Awesome! So when the movie came out, I loved it! A few changes to the character that I could let go. Sequel? I couldn't wait. But only sort of liked it. I just felt so down thoughout it. OK. Everyone was down on Spider-man and Peter Parker. I get it. Now the third one comes out. I couldn't believe this crap fest. I left the theater angry. Way too much going on and yet not enough. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but when did Peter become an emo? And then they had to completely destroy his origin and the whole power/responibility thing. So, wait for DVD. Or you can skip it completely.

Wait for the DVD rental.
you may be as dissapointed as the haters so see the matinee just to be safe. I for one think its worth seeing full price though
If you think the other spiderman movies where stupid then don't see it.

I saw it last night and I thought it was great. I was shaking through the movie because I was so impressed with it.

I paid full price and do not regret it.

but I'm a huge spiderman fan.

of course the stories and the way the characters interact have been changed from the original a little, and Marvel admits it, they do it to fit time constraints and to keep up with current technology and beliefs
no! not worth it!
I saw it and yes it was worth seeing. There was a little bit to much love dovey stuff in the begginging but when the action kicked up it was great. I really think that you should see it cuz spiderman is kinda mean in this one and its interesting to see him act like an asshole to other people.
I liked it. I think it's worth seeing.

I brought my own food to the movie theater and was thrown out by the manager. Did he overreact?

I didn't think anyone would mind if I brought my own barbeque along with the hotdogs.

You have to stuff it in your man purse.

What to say to someone in a movie theater who...?

...is sitting in front of you and is either:

1. Talking to the screen (i.e. "don't go in there" or "look behind the door"), or,

2. Talking through the whole movie (to a friend or on a cell), or,

3. Reciting every line word-for-word because they've already seen the movie.

My patience is growing thin. Bodily harm, though successfull, is not an option. What does it take to shut these people up?

What to say to someone in a movie theater who...?performing arts center

yell at them "shut the %26amp;#$@ up!!!" even though i make more noise then they are... its better in the long run.

What to say to someone in a movie theater who...?sunshine opera theater

Talk to the manager.
I would tell them ssshhhhhhhhhh and then tickle them hehe
Very silently lean forward, get your mouth near that person's ear and softly say, "please lower your voice" or "please be quiter." An alternative is to get out of your seat, go to the seat in FRONT of the talker, put your hands on the backrest (of that seat in front of hem/her) as you lean forward and speak firmly, "YOU'RE TALKING TOO LOUD!" Everybody will see and her this, maybe you'll get an applause.

Or go ask the management to fix it.

Or you can throw popcorn/candy every time they speak up.

Or you can answer their comment each time, "YEAH! DON'T GO IN THERE" "YEAH! LOOK BEHIND THE DOOR!"
I get up and move in front of them. pull out my cell phone and eat my popcorn very loudly

report them to the usher...................
Tell the ushers. That is their job.
either

cough really loudly

kick their seat

through popcorn at them, or wotever u hav

spit at them,

complain to the cinema and get a free ticket.
tell them to be quiet please if they dont tell them to shut the *ell up.
Why make it worse for everyone else? I would go up to the usher

and explain, If nothing has been done Id ask for the man in charge on wantting a refund explaining what happened, and how they lost you as a customer. It would be his duty to conffrount the usher
Usually, I opt for the "shhhhhhhhhh" whispered in the ear of the offender. It's not always successful, I admit. Usually, what it really takes is intervention by an employee of the movie theater. Or an angry mob.
Go complain to one of the ushers. It is their job to take care of this kind of thing.
Excuse me sir...Pee Wee (Paul Reubens) wants to know if the seat next to you is taken? He loves movie theaters too!
ooo I hate that so bad...Try asking nicely...If that fails complain, I suppose
Tell them to please keep it down, if that doesn't work tell them to shut the hell up.
I say 'SSSHHHHHHH" real loud.....works every time. You're not being mean or nasty but getting the point across.....
id yell at them and tell them to shut up
when i was in my late 20's my friend and i went to the movies and there were a gaggle of teenagers sitting in front of us. they talked for the first 15 minutes of the movie until i leaned forward and told them to shut the hell up. after the movie, they all stood up and glared at me..giving threatening looks. i stood up and was about 5 inches taller and 50 pounds heavier than the biggest of them. they left quickly. my friend and i laughed our butts off
Lean forward and say...'I have paid good money to watch this movie. Please shut up'. '

I silenced an entire theater once by these means.
A stinker in their face. But that is chemical warfare.
Just tell them to SHUT UP! Or make things really discreet and tell the manager, or whoever's working in the area.
Here's what I would say..........

"Excuse me, there are others that would like to enjoy the movie as well as you seem to be, so would you please be kind and SHUT UP!

How do you set up a projector home theater system?where do you hook up stero, dvd, and cable?

do you have to have a screen or can you use a white sheet, for large white paper?

How do you set up a projector home theater system?where do you hook up stero, dvd, and cable?regal theater

Fully agree with 'anynewideas' answer.. I just did exactly the same even had the same projector (Pansonic AE900u) and the 106 elite screen and the 7.1 speakers and the wiring.

Couple of things..I would advise investing in a Tuner/reciever. All th wires from your TV, DVD,VCR, I-POD etc come into this box and the wires that go out are to the speakers and the projectoor. This avoids havin long cables to connect your Projector to your units. You have to connect only one cable from the reciever to the projector and you are all set. (Can be HDMI and/or component)

Another thing.. when using wires to connect your speakers, I suggest a lower gauge wire (preferably 12 gauge) to enhance your listening pleasure. Available at Lowes for about 50c a liner foot..

How do you set up a projector home theater system?where do you hook up stero, dvd, and cable?performing art center opera theater

sure u can use one. sound goes into white and red. and video goes into a yellow circle thing.
One of the best resources for any front projection enthusiast is www.projectorcentral.com, they have tons of articles and things to read about projectors in general. They even have a glossary on their site that is VERY helpful. As to your question(s), I currently hook up my Panasonic PT-AE900U above my couch on the ceiling via a ceiling mount, I then have all of the cables running in the ceiling and the wall to my media case where my DVD player, my X-Box, my stereo receiver, my cable box, and my old school Nintendo (come on, how could I not -- it's been so neglected for so long!) sitting next to me by the couch, the projector shines the image about 12.5 feet away onto my 106" diagonal Elite fixed frame, high contrast screen. I have a 7.1 audio setup, and all of my speakers are flush-mounted into the walls in their respective positions. Now, when it comes to your setup, it can be as clean or as sloppy as you like. I personally hate seeing cables, so all of mine are either under the carpet, in the walls or in the ceiling. My first home theater system had a screen that I made out of some kind of spongy white material that I bought at a local fabric store. It really wasn't bad, but, a professional screen really changes things, even non-enthusiasts can tell the difference. Just keep in mind that everything should be checked before you start putting holes everywhere because nothing sucks worse than finding out your HDMI cable doesn't work after you already put it in your wall!! At any rate, set it up, figure out what you like, then upgrade. Part of the fun of having your own front-projection home theater is the hobby involved in it -- then showing it off to all your friends and neighbors for Super Bowl always brings a smile to my face.

If there's no one in the movie theater do they still show the movie?

If there's no one in the movie theater do they still show the movie?oper opera theater

Yes cause they stay on scedule
Are you a philosopher?
dont no, but one time b4 me and my brother were the only ones in a movie
Yes. Empty movie theatres depress me. But theatres hardly make any money from showing movies because it costs so much just to purchase the rights to show it. I think it is something like 90% of their profit comes from concessions. Thats why they give out screening passes for movies.

Heck, it even costs money to show a movie in my film class. You have to pay the distributor even if the movie has been out for 50+ years.
I once knew a guy who managed a movie theater, and he said yes, they show the movie even if the theater is completely empty. He also said that the movie isn't what makes money - it's the concessions. He said that even when all the seats are filled they wouldn't break even on the cost of the film, but they made up for that shortfall on the overpriced popcorn, sodas, etc.
Yes, I believe they do. I've been to a multi-movie-complex and walked in late for a movie, and my friend and I were the only ones there. They have a published schedule to maintain.
Yes, most movie theaters now are totally automated and the movies play automatically even if no one is in the theater.

What have you covertly brought into the movie theater with you?

You know you don't want to pay their outrageous candy prices....

My personal achievements stand at a loaf of jalapeno focaccia bread and a 2 liter bottle of Coke, and, on another occasion, Chinese food and Milk Duds.

Thank you for all who answer! :)

What have you covertly brought into the movie theater with you?opera ticket

LOL of course I have! We always hit the Walgreens or other store close by for candy. I have my movie purses that I bring along and leave most of it in my glove box. I've never brought in 'food', but candy and bottles of pop. You're damn right I'm not paying $3 for a bag of skittles when I can get them for $.75. The only thing I break down and buy is popcorn. We eat so much of it there's no way I have a purse big enough for that!

What have you covertly brought into the movie theater with you?pacific theater opera theater

Now are you talking drive in or just a walk in cause if your talking drive in you would never believe what i got in there
I once brought in a coffee mug, two sandwiches, two pizzas, three bags of skittles, two Starbucks (fraps), a bottle of peanuts, and some crackers all at once. But usually I bring in one or two of the aforementioned.
Two of my friends in the trunk for a drive in movie! :P

I usually get a few 20oz bottles of soda and sneak them in under my coat or in the wifes' purse.
beer, candy, popcorn, slurpees, pretty much anything you want since the kids that work there don't give a damn anyways.
Wendy's triple cheeseburgers and some very cold colas several times. Once, I managed to slip in a strong mixed alcohol drink (ahhhh, now THAT was sweet!!).

What I sneaked into a movie theater is NOTHING compared to what I've DONE in a dark movie theather. But ah: that's another question for another time, I guess.
I once brought my kitty kat into the theater hidden inside my jacket. Nobody knew.
Sodas, candy bars, chex mix, no ice cream though. LOL

One time we did sneak subway sandwiches into a movie, with liter sodas!
Mostly drinks/food
A big packet of bbq chips and a big bottle of coke. Lollies and bickies, and I am naughty and buy popcorn as it smells so good. :)
I put water bottles and candy in my purse when i go
He he he, yeah I know what you mean, I never buy movie theater concessions. We almost always bring little zip-lock bags of skittles or M%26amp;M's or something like that.
I usually just buy their popcorn and coke : (
beer
Chinese take out with chopsticks and napkins what a banquet we had.The smell was obvious no one said anything.
usually just candy
6 pack of beer %26amp; taco bell
LOL Not sure how you were able to smuggle that in without being caught.

Last time I went to the theater, I had a candy cane stashed in my purse.
DOMINOS PIZZA
2 liter bottle of coke?......wow...i'm impress.

kfc meal, candies and a bottle of pepsi

i mean not all at once

How many months is a movie in the theater?

That is really up to the movie theatre and whoever owns it. Some chain movie theatres switch out their movies fairly regularly, but if a movie is doing really well in on theatre it can stay there for however long the theatre manager wishes. I have seen movies come and go as quickly as a week, and as long as two months. There is no set date.

How many months is a movie in the theater?passions soap opera

Sometimes a theater is contractually obligated to show a film for a certain amount of time. If a film does really poorly, it can usually be pulled without any penalty.

doodad
Is cinemark a states theatre? Here we have many small screens and not very big inside the theatre. Sorry I can't help. Oh, I love in Ontario, Can.
big
I live in a small town so I guess the movie screens here arent too big as other big cities but its a fairly big screen. I don't complain.

(I dont know the exact size though)
Big but it depends how good is the movie theather
like 20 feet
It varies. There used to be an industry standard, but with today's multiplex theaters, there are a wide variety of screen sizes
depends in the size of the room at the popularity of the theater
Which one?

I was also thinking "he's using my hand", but then it would not be masturbating, would it?

How many of you actually go to a theater anymore??

I haven't been since last October, and that was to see the Grudge 2. I love seeing movies on the big screen, but with dvd's costing so little now it is hardly worth it. The big screen is great, but you also have the hassle of line ups and trying not to bother other people when you need to go to the concession or the bathroom. And you always miss something when you do. Plus the prices are too extravagant now!!

How many of you actually go to a theater anymore??imax theater

I used to work at a movie theatre about five years ago. When I was hired the general manager said something to the effect of "Even though we have the internet now, and DVDs and people can get the theatre experience at home, we still line up for movies at the cinema."

He seemed to think that people come for the social aspect. it is something to do with friends and dates. Not TOO intimate for first dates etc.

That being said I think that a lot of people are fed up with movie prices and with the availability of things like netflix and vongo and other movie on demand type services, I think the cinema is going to start to become less of a real destination for people and more of a "sometimes" thing. I think we'll start seeing less blockbusters in the next ten years and a rise of independant straight to internet/dvd releases.

How many of you actually go to a theater anymore??classical music opera theater

I agree, I love to go, but it's sooo expensive that it's hardly worth it. I went this year to POTC3 and last year to see POTC2. Since they're done with those movies, looks like I won't be to the theater for a long time.

I actually went to a drive-in for POTC3...I think they should start bringing those back, they're cheaper and way more fun.
Naaaaaaa I rather download movies for free
I agree that the price of going to the movies vs just renting a dvd is ridiculous, but I still love actually going to the theater. I do it rarely anymore (my husband doesn't really like to go) but it's a real treat when I do go. There's nothing better than sitting in a theater seat with some popcorn and watching a great movie!
I go to film bootlegs....another good question- How many of you actually still buy DVDs at a store?
I love going to the theater. In a months time I saw

Shrek the Third, Pirates of the Carribean 3, Knocked Up and Oceans 13.
I netflix
I only go if it is something that i have been looking forward too...

going just for the fun cost too much now.
Once a year .
i love going. ive already seen POTC3 and Shrek 3 and im waiting to see Oceans 13 and Fantastic 4. its boring just sittin at home watching a movie on tv. thats just me. i mean if you cant sit still for a t least two hours then i guess stayin at home is better. but when im bein entertained i dont care how long it is just as long as its a good movie.
Movies come out so fast now, its almost not even worth it. But i do like the times i get to go to the movie thearter.
Not in about 5 years.
we go once in a while, and lately it has been to Imax...really big screen. One we went into, gave us a barf bag 'cause it was showing a ride in a helicopter going through mountains!! luckily, we didn't have to use it.
Movies in theaters are now primarily for teenagers and kids. That's why there are so many PG and PG-13 movies coming out now. I go to the movies almost every week. Our theater gives a discount from 4-6, 5 bucks to see a movie, so I go with my friends. There isn't anything else to do, and the theaters aren't as crowded as they used to be.
I went with my kids yesterday (husband didn't want to come - too busy with his car). we watched Fantastic Four. I think that there are just some movies you have to see on a screen bigger than your livingroom area and feel the sound in the chest.
I go when there is something I want to see!! The only movies this year that I've seen in the theater that were actually worth seeing were "Spiderman 3" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End".

I think 5.50 is worth watching a movie with friends where you can have fun.

I can't stand it when little kids are running around the theater though. Or, when they are really loud.

But, going with just a few other people (as long as my boyfriend is there) makes the movie great!!

Just don't get a drink so you won't have to go to the bathrooom ;0)
I haven't been to a theater in a long time. I have a subscription to Netflix online and I am loving it!
im going this wednsday!!!!!!!!!!!!to see nancy drew
yeah, I just love to sit in a dark room with strangers and eat overpriced candy

(hey, who's cell phone is that)
yeah there is no rewind button at the movie theaters, plus the person behind you may be talking a lot.
well then.. dont go to the bathroom and get food? do it before duh!
I am with you Lori I would rather stay home and be comfortable and watch a movie with my family and save the money for other things.....
I went 2 weeks ago to see "Knocked UP" but i go probably once every 3 months. I love go to the movies its really fun to se the movie on the big screen with the sound. I love going cuz its also one of the few times i eat popcorn
I LOVE THE THEATRES! Although I agree with what your saying. But I show up early, don't buy anything (except my ticket) and I don't usually get up during a movie. So it's not a hastle for me, and doesnt take too much out of my wallet. But renting movies is awesome too.
Eh, I have seen a bunch of movies this year. Yeah the DVD's cost like nothing now, but I don't really care about the price. It's the thrill of seeing a movie in the theater. I just buy a ticket and go in. I don't eat or drink anything there, so I am all set. Seeing any movie in the theater is exciting to me, because when are you going to see it again when it is all dark, the sound is excellent and, it's projected so you only pay attention to that. Well, if you have a home movie system, maybe. But i just love watching the movies in the theater, it's the thrill.
I actually went to one last night, but they suck. It was $9.75. I don't understand why it must be that expensive. Maybe it is because movies are bootlegged and downloaded, but has the price of CD's gone up? Hmm...
I haven't been to the theater since

Dancing With the Wolves.
Nikki, what's your address? I don't understand why you want to put people out of work. Plus why would anybody want to buy something of such low quality as a bootleg recorded off the screen? Why not be a proper criminal and steal cars. DVD sales account for most of a films profit, which production companies use to make more films and hire more people to work on them. Please rent or buy the films to keep us working.

There's nothing like the big screen and amazing sound. I go to the movies every week.
