Where is a good place to purchase cheap theater tickets in New York?

Me and some friends are going to see the Color Purple and are not sure if we should purchase now or when we get to New York.

TKTS has 2 locations in NYC. They sell them for discount because they are tickets that have been unsold for performances that day.

The South Street Seaport Booth sells tickets to evening performances on the day of the performance, and matinee tickets the day before.

TKTS in Times Square, it's across from TGIF's. The Times Square Booth sells day-of-performance tickets only.

So, there is no guarantee that Color Purple tickets for the day you want to go will be available at either TKTS. You will never find tickets to very popular shows or recent shows like Lion King or Spam-A-Lot. CP might be the same too since it is somewhat new and Fantasia is in it.

One last thing, if you happen to wait and they do have tickets for CP, bring cash or traveler's cheques. TKTS does NOT take personal checks or credit cards.

TKTS has their booth in Times Square. You can't miss it...there is a BIG TKTS on the top of it with HUGE lines of people wanting to purchase the cheaper tickets.
