What is the best height to place home theater speakers?

In an ideal setting we want the speakers at the same level as our ears, after all that's where we hear from! Your best placement would be between your waist (ear level when sitting) and the top of your head (say for music or when you are wanderign around). Say AWAY from the corners as it will change the sound of the speaker due to the acoustical result of a corner. Good luck

I have mine in the upper corners, and it sounds great.

For the two main front ones, at a height which will place the major (mid-frequency)drivers on the same level as your ears when seated.

The height of the others isn't quite so important, especially any sub-woofer.
Sub woofer - anyplace (the sound is non directional-same effect in all direction)

Midrange to high tone - head level (sound above 1kHz is best heard at direction towards your ear)
The front left and right should have teeters about ear level when seated.

The center channel would be best at ear level when seated although that is not usually possible because of the screen. At that point it can go beneath the screen but if you have a second row (or more) of seating then the front row can block the dialog so you should then move it to above the screen.

Surround speakers, whether 2,3, or 4 for 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 surround need to be above your ears. These speakers are used more for dispersive locations and should not be directed at the ears.

Subwoofer typically sits on the floor. The lower the frequency, the less directional the sound becomes.

Do NOT put the speakers in corners, especially the sub. This will create high and low spots making the experience less enjoyable for about 2/3'ds of the audience.

If you want to see placement preferences for direction also, the Dolby website is VERY helpful at www.dolby.com and enjoy.
I would suggest at the average head level when sitting down.
in the corners of the walls at the top. like ur tvs in front and ur couch faces it. put the speakers on the wall behind ur couch. thats how i have mine set up and it sounds good
