Hi. Does anyone know if JVC's Home Theater in a Box, TH-C90 is any good?

JVC is a name you can trust. What you pay for is what you get. The lower the price the more performance has been compromised. I would try it if the store has a return policy.

Hi.Most of those home theater in a box products are low quality units The 1000 watt rating of the one you have in mind is probably a peak music power rating which means nothing. If you just want a very basic system where sound does not matter then this may do.

If you want something much better for the same money then i would put together a system of separate parts .Firstly Onkyo have a new 7.1 Receiver for $299 retail which is very good .have a look at the link below.

Here are some good speakers to consider .These have a bright sound. $299 (special at vanns)

Here is another type of sound .These are $298.

There are many more speaker combinations around and if you can, try to listen to them to find the sound that is right for you.

Because of the ongoing war between HD DVD and Blu-Ray ,it is hard to suggest a dvd player to buy now. You can buy a HD.DVD one now if you like or a Blue-Ray one,or one with both formats together or one that upscales to 1020i.

Hope this has given you some ideas.
