1) Connect your dvd/cable box/satelite/xbox/ps3/etc audio and video output to your receiver.

2) Connect the video output of your receiver to your tv

3) Hook up your speakers to your receiver

4) Set up your receiver to input dvd, etc. and pick surround sound or stereo etc on the settings.

5) If you have all the connections right, and the settings right you should see the video on your tv and hear the audio from your surround sound.

Assuming you have a surround sound receiver, you need to route the audio outputs of all your devices (DVD, Sattelite or Cable box, VCR, etc.) to the appropriate inputs on the surround receiver and then use your input buttons on the receiver to select which device's sound goes to your speakers...
Connect your R audio (red) and L audio (white) and video

(yellow) cables from your TV's OUT to your receiver's IN.

If you have an HDTV that has and HDMI connector, and if

your receiver has this terminal as well, just connect this

between your TV and receiver -and voila!
